Abstract

Multicultural counselors as professionals are an important aspect in the succession of counseling implementation. The diversity that exists in society requires counselors to continue to develop their competencies. The many ethnicities, cultures, races, skin colors and languages can become obstacles in the implementation of counseling if the counselor does not have sufficient skills in processing and controlling clients with different backgrounds. The LGBT phenomenon must be an important concern for multicultural counselors. Counselors must provide appropriate interventions to be able to direct clients with LGBT backgrounds to become individuals who understand themselves and their environment. There are three multicultural competencies that are important for counselors to have, namely, awareness, knowledge and skills.
